Statement re: Wheelabrator Technologies

A recent presentation by Wheelabrator Technologies regarding their interest in an ash monofil on land owned by Peckham Industries resulted in a newspaper article in the Daily Mail on Friday, February 8, 2019 which has led to some confusion.

--

The town regularly receives requests from businesses regarding interest in locating in Catskill.~ Wheelabrator first approached us more than a year ago to describe this project. ~In presentations at open Town Board meetings which can be heard online, we have been assured that this project…

  • Does not involve any burning.
  • Does not involve any organic materials.
  • Does not create any gas emissions.

As the article stated, any decision regarding its status is 2 to 3 years away.~ Prior to that there is regulatory review at the federal, state and local levels.~ We await the full regulatory exercise before taking any action.~ Only after regulatory review and approval would we assess next steps.~ Were this to be approved for our industrial corridor, the local community would receive additional revenue.

Whatever the details, any future review will fully involve the public at multiple steps in the process, as it has until now.
