How do I handle a Traffic Summons?
On the back of the traffic summons, you must sign either Guilty or Not Guilty.
Mail the completed summons to:
                           
                            Catskill Town Court
                           441 Main Street
                           Catskill, NY 12414

If I have already mailed in my summons, do I need to appear in court on my scheduled date which appears on my traffic summons?

NO, wait to hear by mail from the court.

What is the maximum amount you can sue in Small Claims Court?

$3,000 is the maximum amount you can sue

NOTES:

1.) Anyone over 18 years of age can bring an action in Small Claims Court.

2.) The party you wish to sue MUST live or have a business in the Town of Catskill.  A physical address is required to start your claim.

3.) If you choose, you may be represented by an attorney at your own expense, however, it is not necessary to have an attorney since Small Claims Court is meant to be a “people’s court” where claims may be tried speedily, informally, and inexpensively.  

The Filing Fees for Small Claims are:

$10.00 for claims up to $1,000
$15.00 for claims ranging from $1,000 - $3,000
