BASIC STAR QUALIFICATIONS: (If you meet the following qualifications you may be eligible for the Basic Star Exemption)
1) Property must be occupied by at least one of the owners
2) Property must be the primary residence of the owner (proof of residency may be required)
How to Apply for the Basic Star Exemption
1) Complete the STAR Application below (Applications are also available at the Town of Catskill Assessor’s Office)
2) Application must be filed in the Catskill Assessor’s Office by Taxable Status Date (March 1st)
3) Application only needs to be filed once

ENHANCED STAR QUALIFICATIONS: (If you are 65 or older and meet the following qualifications you may be eligible for the Enhanced Star Exemption)
1) All owners must be at least 65 years of age
**If the owners are married or are siblings, only one spouse/sibling has to be 65 or older
**Proof of age is required (i.e. Driver's License/Birth Certificate)
2) Property must be owner occupied
3) Property must be the primary residence of the owner (proof of residency may be required)
4) To qualify for 2009, the 2007 adjusted gross income of all owners (less IRA Distributions) must be $73,000 or less.
**This includes taxable Social Security and ALL other sources of income
**If only one spouse (husband or wife) is listed as the owner, both incomes are still required
How to Apply for the Enhanced Star Exemption
1) Complete the STAR Application below (Applications are also available at the Town of Catskill Assessor’s Office)
2) For 2009 applicants, attach to your Application a copy of the first page of your 2007 Federal/State Income Tax Return (If Filed) - If you do not file, please attach any documents that state your 2007 earnings
3) Application must be filed in the Catskill Assessor’s Office by Taxable Status Date (March 1st)
4) Enhanced STAR Exemption must be renewed every year

ENHANCED STAR INCOME VERIFICATION PROGRAM:
Senior Citizens who would like to continue receiving the Enhanced Star Exemption in future years without having to reapply and submit copies of their tax returns to the Assessor's Office every year are welcome to sign up for the STAR Income Verification Program. To qualify for this program, you must file a New York State Income Tax Return each year.
